The earth can be seen as a natural laboratory in which to study physical fields and their effects. With this in mind the nature of magnetism in rocks is likened to a bar magnet. Then some laboratory experiments are carried out with magnetism and electric currents. Ancient magnetism in rocks using Polar Wander Curves extended back 500 million years into geological past is explained. Finally the concept of reversals in the earth's magnetic field is introduced.
